Hindu Statue - Parvati (She of the Mountains) Finely detailed mid 1900s reproduction of an 11 th Century Chola Dynasty Statue of the Goddess Parvati. This bronze stands 12" high and weighs 5.5 lbs. Parvati's name in Sanskrit means: ' She of the Mountains'. She is the daughter of the mortal Himavat, King of the Himalayas and Mena, a celestial dancing spirit of the clouds. Parvati is the physical and spiritual Hindu feminine ideal. She is eternally the beautiful, self-sacrificing young woman who, through the force of her will, brought Shiva out of his mystic world and into the worldly human realm. The earliest bronze statues in India were cast in the Indus Valley about 2300 BC, reaching an artistic peak during south India's Chola Dynasty (c. 9th to 13th centuries AD). The patronage of dynamic Chola rulers during this period sparked unprecedented growth in philosophy, poetry, dance, temple architecture, religious devotion and fine art. This piece was cast by hand in the mid 1900's using a process unchanged in thousands of years. Age-old techniques, and a painstaking attention to finish and detail, ensure that this bronze is virtually indistiguishable from the antique Chola originals costing many thousands of dollars. Shipping (including insurance) cost will vary depending upon the destination.
