Beautiful Framed Hiroshige Woodblock Print "Cherry Trees on the Tama River Banks" Hiroshige displayed his masterly coloring skills in this print. The pink cherry blossoms contrast well with the shaded dark blue of the river and the green of the banks. In his days the river banks extending about forty kilometers from Hamura on the western outskirts of Edo to Yotsuya-Okido in the present Shinjuku Ward was one of the best cherry-blossoms-viewing skights in the city. The place shown in this picture coincides with a locality near the present Shinjuku Gardens. A house on the right is a brothel seen from behind. The river is now covered over and serves as a sewer around here. Measure 16" x 12" Condition-Excellent color and detail. Please email with any questions you may have...Thanks and ...
