HISTOIRE DE GIL BLAS DE SANTILLANE Par Monssieur LE SAGE CINQUIEME EDITIONavec Figures TOME PREMIER & TOMES QUATRIEME A AMSTERDAM Aux depens DE LA COMPAGNIE, 1740 Volumes I & IV only Two volumes, each bound (once) in full leather. Measuring approx 17cm x 10cm x 3cm. The front board of Tome Premier is detached and the other boards are cracked to spine edges and are shaky. Board and spine edges, and top and bottom of spine are chipped and scuffed with loss (rear boards are a bit dented and chipped). The leather is scuffed, rubbed and grubby, and spines are creased and surface chipped. Two of the title labels have been replaced with tape labels. Internally there is a previous owners bookplate to front board of each (Admiral Sir Eliab Harvey), and a name to front of tome 1. Endpapers and blanks are chipped, detaching/detached to edges and are marked and grubby. There are a couple of crude pencil sketches to front blank of tome IV, and a couple of ink letters to front blank of tome I. There is some pale staining to corners of the last half of tome I, and a couple of small stains to some margins. Contents are thumbed and are cracking/cracked in places, with a couple of small sections loosening and thus a bit proud (these pages are bumped to outer edges).
