a large brass office company name sign of thomas richardson & sons limited hartlepool engine works registered office here is a one-off chance to get a piece of hartlepools historic shipbuilding industry a company sign from the offices of thomas richardson. thomas richardson snr. came from castle eden co.durham were he owned a foundry along with his two sons thomas jnr.and john the firm built locomotives ,mining equipment and were shipbuilders. in 1836 thomas richardson went into partnership with joseph parkin from sunderland and started parkin & richardson shipbuilders old hartlepool there 1st wooden ship was called the castle eden in 1838 they moved to yard at middleton hartlepool after building 2 more ships the partnership ended and the yard was sold to - j.p. denton thomas richardson died in 1855 and his sons took over the business trading as - richardson brothers (thomas richardson jnr. of kirklevington hall yarm (MP)for hartlepool 1880s. they built the first iron ship in hartlepool called the sir colin cambell richardson brothers carried on building marine engines until 1900 when they went into partnership with another two firms trading as richardson westgarth and company ltd. the company was made up of richardson brothers , sir christopher furness ,westgarth & co ltd (middlesbrough) and william
