About this sale... Thisis one of three sterling pieces that are being offered by FrancisAsbury United Methodist Church in Rockville, Maryland. The church needs to raise money, so this silver has been taken out of long time storage and is being sold. No one at the church knows how the church came into possession of these pieces, or the history behind them. I am selling the pieces for the church, as they do not have an Ebay account. ALL proceeds from this sale will go directly to the church. Please see my other items for the two related pieces of sterling. About this piece... This is a sterling silver bowl with beautiful raised flowers, leaves, and scrolls around the perimeter. The detail in the flowers is incredible. The bowl is almost 12 inches across at its widest point, with a base that is roughly 7 inches across. Height of the bowl is approximately 7 and 3/4 inches. The bowl weighs about 56 ounces. The bowl has a beautiful patina from years of storage. The sides of the bowl are made up of six panels, four of which are engraved. The front panel is engraved with the words " IN MEMORIAM " over the large initials " MSJ ". Moving clockwise, the next panel is engraved with " ONE BAPTISM ", followed by a blank panel. The next engraved panel bears " ONE FAITH ", followed by another blank panel. The final panel is engraved with " ONE LORD ". Stamped into the into the base of the bowl is the name " GORHAM M'F'G CO ." Also stamped into the base is the following: 925 1000 STERLING ( three shield-shaped characters that I can't distinguish - see pictures ) 7 4 4 I've tried to describe this piece to the best of my abilities, however, I am not an antiques dealer nor a silver expert. Payment will be by either check or money order, made payable to "Francis Asbury UMC" . Payment by money order will ship immediately, however, personal checks will be held for 10 days. Winning bidder will pay for actual shipping, and item will ship from Rockville, Maryland (zip 20851).
