HISTORIC OREGON ALBUM, HILLSBORO, MCMINNVILLE 1900 Description :This is a very special album with photos from Hillsboro, Forest Grove and McMinnville, Oregon, towns within about 20 miles of Portland, from the 1890s to 1900. T are 42 images in all, mostly one to a page and a few loose ones. T's a great range of photo subjects, from birds eye views to city (town) streets with advertising and cigar signs, to wonderful occupational images of men in machine shops--possibly shipbuilders--to a politcal rally on the town green to beautiful ships at dock and at sea to three colleges and schools to beautiful, very early churches to a soda fountain counter to people on their farms/ranches with horses to engineers playing cards--with a kitty cat on one man's lap. T's a wonderful occupational shot of "Hillsboro Dray-men," with their horse and wagon, standing in the mud. At the dock or shipbuilding plant, t's a kind of military review or kind of parade, possibly even Masonic, with soldiers lined up and a crowd of people. The rally on the town green has a speaker in the park's pagoda--looks like a famous politician, not sure who it is. Wonderful photo os Hillsboro School, the Christian Church in McMinnville, McMinnville College and Pacific University in Forest Grove. T's a haunting quality to the old images, they're really early. Not a car in sight. Beautiful Gothic Victorian buildings, many details. A real journey back in time. Also a great family shot of the Shattuck Family, out in front of their farm, with their collie. Oh, and a Masonic receipt from the Castle Hall, Phoenix Lodge, received of Jos. Rector, dated Feb 5, 1900. The album is small (6x5) and in good shape. The pages are still bound and the photos, possibly albumens, are in good condition; a few are a bit light. Each page is a heavy, cardboard like mount. Just wonderful.
