I am offering an original brick from the Historic Saint Louis Arena building which stood on Oakland Avenue in St. Louis, Missouri. The building was erected in 1928-29 by a group of private investors. They hired an architect that utilized a "Lamella" style roof structure. It used 20 cantilever steel trusses with other wooden beams that eliminated the need for any internal supports that would have obstructed spectators views of the arena floor. Their goal was to create a facility that would be the home of the National Dairy Convention where livestock from all over the country would be exhibited. The new name was The Saint Louis Coliseum. The dimensions of the facility were 475 feet long and 276 feet across. It was behind only Madison Square Garden as the largest indoor entertainment space in the country. A thirteen (13) story building could stand on the inside. The building assumed other names over the years: The Checkerdome, The Saint Louis Arena and some people affectionately referred to is as "The Barn".The building stood from 1929 until 1999 and housed many and varied events some of which were: concerts, conventions, horse shows, livestock expositions, Fireman's Rodeos, Police Circus's, Boxing matches, basketball games, hockey games, indoor soccer games and Boy Scout Shows.
