Historical Staffordshire Dark Blue Transferware Pearlware Plate c1830 ~ DARTMOUTH ~ IRREGULAR SHELL BORDER ~ Enoch Wood & Sons ~ 8 1/2" in diameter A dark blue Staffordshire plate from the famous shell border usually printed with American views, this one is British view of Dartmouth with a group of people in a fishing boat with larger boats in the distance, castle and mountains in the background. This beautiful border of different shells is nicely printed here with good contrast and has the 'grotto' effect of the irregular picture frame. In excellent condition, with three raised stilt marks on the face border and some light crazing to the glaze. I've included close ups of the plate tilted to the light to see how glossy and nice the surface is, there is only very minor evidence of wear. The back with an impressed Enoch Wood mark with eagle and shield. Thanks for looking, No Reserve!
