This lot Includes: An historically interesting engraved sterling silver cigar case with hallmarks for Birmingham, 1938, CSG & Co makers. The curved rectangular body with rounded edges opens with a thumb clasp to reveal a hallmarked & gilded interior. This case is interesting because it names [Private] James Johnston of the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, a real kick-butt team of hardcore fighting men. This case is engraved thus: James Johnston / Argyll & Sutherlands / Sept. 26 1917". This is obviously a commemorative date and was engraved on the cigar case as a memory of the Great War. The cigar case weighs in at an impressive 127 grams and measures 4 7/8 inches long. The case is plain except for the engraving and shows some light dents that would come from normal use. The leather outer case is a tight fit, but has kept the inner case in very nice condition over the years.
