This is a set of four (4) hardback books.History of the English Speaking Peoples.by Winston S. Churchill.Dodd, Mead.Poor to good condition, depending on the volume. These look to be original American editions, rather than book club editions, but I cannot gather enough specific information to confirm that. The set was first published in England by the publisher Cassell. Volume One - The Birth of Britain. Copyright 1956. 521 pages.Sample contents: The Roman Province / England / The Vikings / The Norman Invasion / The English Common Law / Magna Carta / Scotland and Ireland / Joan of Arc / The Wars of the Roses / Richard III.Condition: This copy is poor. There is a tilt to the book caused by the separation of the binding from the back hardcover. Inside the back cover on page 521 the web of the binding is evident. There is age oxidation spots or foxing on the top page edge. The gold print on the spine is faded to the point where it is hard to read. Inside the front cover is a name written in black marker (note photo). At the title page the binding shows a bit. Having said all that, the interior pages are clean and very good. Volume Two - The New World. Copyright 1956. 433 pages.Sample contents: The Tudor Dynasty / King Henry VIII / The Break with Rome / Good Queen Bess / The Mayflower / The Revolt of Parliament / The English Republic / read more
