This is the definitive work of the history of Scottish Law Enforcement, being a meticulous account of the origins of the Lothian and Borders Police force from the days of the Edinburgh Town Guard in the 17th century through to the early 1980's. The writer, the late Tom Archibald, was a well known and highly regarded dealer in Numismatics and Militaria who operated a collectables shop in Edinburgh's Causewayside, almost directly opposite the old Sciennes Police Station. He was a long serving Special Constable and also Chairman of the Lothian and Borders Special Constabulary Association. His extensive research and his access to privately sourced material that was not generally available allied with his great knowledge of the subject, combined with his close involvement with latter-day Police procedures and practices, lends this significant work great authenticity and credibility.
