*** MORE PICTURES BELOW!! *** Here's a vintage Hite Rite from the early days of mountain bikes. This was one of the first accessories made for the emerging sport of mountain biking in the early 1980s. Hite Rites are used to instantly adjust saddle height while riding. The device bolts onto your existing seatpost and seatpost bolt. It is used in conjunction with a quick release seatpost clamp. Here's how it works: To lower the saddle while riding, simply reach back and flip open the quick release. Use your weight on the saddle to adjust how far down you want the saddle to go. The Hite Rite keeps your saddle from rotating so your saddle stays straight. When you arrive at the desired position, reach back and close the quick release. Lowering the saddle is useful in tricky terrain making it is easier to put a foot down. Also useful for steep descents where you want a lower center of gravity. To raise the saddle back to original height, reach back and open the quick release. Remove your weight from the saddle and the spring will raise the saddle back to original height. All of this can be done while riding along! Some riders like to run normal saddle height on the ride to the trails, then lower their saddle for riding off road.
