“ Phoebe Preble was a little girl of seven with gay and friendly ways and fair hair that hung in smooth, round curls on either side of her face.” Every Hitty needs a Phoebe! Meet Phoebe Preble – she is 21 inches long. Her head, hands and legs/feet are carved from reclaimed Teak wood and her body is made of canvas. My husband, Ae, is the carver while I (Holly) design, paint, make the cloth body and dress each doll. I have always been fascinated by the old style dolls that combine wood and cloth and after falling in love with Hitty, Her First Hundred Year s, just knew I had to create a Phoebe as I never see them for sale anywhere. I’ve designed Phoebe’s hair in a fashion similar to some of the Schoenhut dolls. There are two ringlets on either side of her face while the rest of her hair is straight. Her Head is painted with Liquitex Acrylics but I’ve left her hands and feet natural Teak though they do have a matt varnish finish to preserve the wood. Her feet can move up and down. She is signed and dated on the back. Hopefully the photos do her justice. Phoebe is dressed in a white chemise under garment , a floral print skirt and a deep pink blouse. While she is shown in a few pictures with Hitty on her lap, Phoebe and Hitty are being sold separately. Though I do hope someone will buy both as they are very attached to one another J
