HMS Blake - (1961 - 1982) Last Royal Navy Cruiser This HMS Blake plaque is in very good condition. It is made of plaster and is firmly attached to a teak wood base. The ship's badge is 4 ¾ inches wide by 6 inches tall. The hardwood base is 8 by 6 inches. Both the badge and the base are in very good, used, original condition with no damage or signs of repair or repainting etc. HMS Blake was a Tiger Class guided missile cruiser in the Royal Navy, laid down in 1942, launched in 1945 and laid up until 1954, she was commissioned into the Royal Navy in 1961. She was the last Cruiser in the Royal Navy and the last Royal Navy ship to fire a 6 inch gun.Buyer to pay for postage please which will be £3.50 within the UK. I will ship world wide. She was laid down in 1942 but due to pressing war time requirements, not launched until 1945. Construction was suspended in 1946 and she was laid up at Gareloch Scotland until 1954. Construction resumed to a post war design with improved facilities throughout, including air conditioning and the first fully automatic telephone system installed on an RN ship. Blake finally commissioned into the Royal Navy in 1961, the last cruiser to do so. From read more
