H.M.S. "CORNWALLIS" Battleship, Royal Navy . THE MEDITERRANEAN SQUADRON AT MALTA WW1 - GALLIPOLI CAMPAIGN 1915-16 During the First World War, HMS "Cornwallis" was sent to the Dardanelles in January 1915, and was the first British warship to open fire on the Turkish positions. She took part throughout the campaign and assisted at the final evacuation in December 1915, being the last ship to leave.
