HMS Terrible (1895 - 1932) - Candle Stick This candle stick is made from the teak of HMS Terrible (1895 - 1932). It is 6 inches tall with a circular base of just under 5 inches in diameter. The candle stick is in very good condition, clean with no damage or serious wear. There is a brass "bowl" at the top to accommodate the candle. Attached to the base is a brass plate which reads, " From The Teak Of H.M.S.TERRIBLE Who's Guns Relieved Ladysmith ". HMS Terrible was a Royal Navy Cruiser launched in 1895 and broken up in 1932. Buyer to pay for postage please which will be £3.50 within the UK. I will ship world wide. HMS Terrible was a First Class Cruiser built by J.& G. Thomson on Clydebank Glasgow and launched in 1895. During the second Boer War, in 1899 she was sent to South Africa where some of her guns plus 24 Officers and 217 men from her crew were engaged in the relief of Ladysmith. Following the successful relief of Ladysmith, HMS Terrible re-embarked her crew and guns and sailed for the China Station to take part in suppressing the Boxer Rebellion. Also aboard ship at this time were 300 men of the 2nd Battalion Royal Welsh Fusiliers and 40 Royal Engineers. Following refits in 1902 and 1904, HMS Terrible was in reserve.
