HO Brass Southern Pacific AC-12 4-8-8-2 Cab-Forward. Very Early Japanese Produced in 1950's or 60's When this all-brass SP Cab-Ahead was built in the 1950's or 1960's, virtually everything was created by hand. I don't know which importer is responsible for this Japanese-built model, but probably Akane or International. Here's what I DO know about it: It runs quite well, driven by a large open-frame motor in the cab, connected to a flexible u-joint which turns a worm in direct contact to an axle gear on the third driver which is exposed beneath the chassis. This connection and gearing arrangement is repeated on the forward truck. Both sets of powered drivers pivot beneath the boiler. The nickel driver tires show indications of some wear. The mechanism will certainly benefit from some basic maintenance. A series of wires has been soldered between the tender trucks and tender chassis to enhance electrical pick-up. The model has been painted and has multiple areas where the paint is chipped. One of the front tender steps and handrails is missing. A running board requires straightening. One of the marker lights is missing. Both couplers are non-functioning brass-castings, easily replaceable with Kadee or other operating knuckle couplers.. This is an opportunity to acquire one of the earliest examples of Japanese production-brass cab-forwards. read more
