HO Roco Deutsche Bundesbahn [Class 44] 2-10-0 Steam Locomotive (Eras II, III, IV) The Class 44 locomotives were built for the Deutsche Reichsbahn between 1926 and 1949. A total of 1,989 of these 3 cylinder work horses were made to meet the need for a heavy freight locomotive. During the many years of manufacture, there were variations, but the basic design of the locomotive did not change. Built for power, they had a top speed of only 80 km/hour [50 miles/hour]. The railway workers called these locomotives “Jumbo” because of their power. After 1945, the Deutsche Bundesbahn took 1,242 the Class 44 locomotives, and 335 went to the East German Deutsche Reichsbahn. The last of the Class 44 locomotives of the Deutsche Bundesbahn was retired on 26 October 1977. It was the last steam locomotive in regular service on the DB. This handsome Roco model of a Deutsche Bundesbahn Class 44 locomotive bears the DB herald with the number 44 1315 and is from the period between 1926 and 1977, and fits into Eras II, III and IV. It is in excellent condition, in its original box. The locomotive does not have an NEM standard coupler pocket on its tender, and it has a North American-style KD coupler.
