Presented for auction is the RARE.. "Hobnail" pattern c.1870, a VERY Early Pattern Glass Gem from Columbia Glass. This highly sought-after EAPG pattern is SELDOM SEEN...and it's AWESOME! Adorned with hobnails top-to-bottom, even on the base ring! What an EXQUISITE EXAMPLE of VERY Early American Pattern Glass...and beautiful glass artistry. It measures 10 1/8" in diameter, stands 6 5/8" high, and is in EXCELLENT CONDITION, with hardly a hint of wear on the plate, if any at all! The glass is SPARKLING CLEAR & SHINEY BRIGHT. The hobnails are the very vulnerable part of this wonderful pattern...and what a treat indeed to find this one with absolutely no flaking or chipping to the hobnails on the plate. I did feel one on the pedestal that is flat flaked on the side. Since this is such an obscure spot, and the hobnail point is fine, I'm wondering if it is just something that was in the making, and has been t for 139 years. It is felt rather than seen. T are about 12 or so hobnails on the lower rim of the plate in one area that were not pulled to a point during the glassmaking process, and are tfore more of a rounded shape (last picture). This would be considered one of the usual old mould marks that can occur during the glassmaking process, like bubbles, straw marks (short one on the plate), swirls/striations, inclusions (one in outside of rim), and other moulding anomalies; all of which are characteristic of antique glass, giving each and every piece of EAPG their own personality! And of course, it has that antique glass BLACK LIGHT GLOW, too! A 139 year-old EAPG Pedestal Cake Stand that I know you will want to add to your collection...or give as a gift! Shipping weight 7 lbs.
