Vietnamese Small Blue and White Covered Box, MID 15th Century circa 1438, of circular form with a flattened top cover, some centered with spiral centered flower head, enclosed with a triple or double cobalt line or the circular sides of the base decorated with a jeweled band, the circular sides of cover with a repeating band of petals. Hoi An Hoard COVERED BOX 2-1/4" in diameter 1-1/2" high MING DYNASTY mid 15th century circa 1438 With original HOI AN HOARD inventory barcode numbers.Every artifact out of this shipwreck was given an inventory number (barcode stickers) and is logged in and registered by archeologists in 1999 when they salvaged this shipwreck cargo from the deaths of the Dragon sea (South China Sea of the coast of Vietnam). These are some pictures out of the BUTTERFIELDS auction catalog October 11-13, 2000 volume 2 This box came OUT OF ONE OF THOSE LOTS They have been tested and are lead free CONDITION : These have been in seawater for over 500 years Chips, marine encrustation, minor staining and degrading of glaze. This one has NO major chips or cracks Does have some very minor chips along rims Has a bit of a gray "wash" Has almost NO encrustations Glaze is still shiny Cobalt blue is still bright Rare mixed media (blue underglaze & red and green enamel on top of the glaze) ALL Red and GReen enamel is washed away read more
