Up for auction is this AWESOME Holmes Booth Haydens DAGUERREOTYPE RADIAL DRIVE LENS & FLANGE c1840-1850. It has about a 12" focal length at infinity. The glass has a few cleaning marks but no deep scratches but the rear glass has some chips on the outside rim that can be seen in the photographs below. These chips may have been made by the Daguerreotypist so that the lens would become a great soft focus portrait lens ... This only makes the perimeter of the image soft and still makes a great photograph. Radial drive focus is smooth but some of the teeth are missing from body as well as a screw holding the knob conecting piece that is shown in the photo below ( the screw could be easily replaced ). This has been slotted for wet plate use. The original patina covers the brass. The barrel is marked 10283 Holmes Booth Haydens New York. I think this is for full plates. This would be great to be on display or to go on a camera for display or would even be a great user. Guaranteed old and original. Item is sold as is.
