Holy Bible, Containing the Old and New Testaments, Translated Out of the Original Tongues, and with the Former Translations Diligently Compared and Revised. New York: American Bible Society, 1857. Stated 3d Edition. Tan weathered leather family bible from the Civil War Era, in nice shape. No illustrations, but family records pages present and contain a small entry for Carrie B. Hartley of Chelsea Mass., also in front a stamp from a FW Hartley. Covers show wear to edges but are in great shapoe with the hinges intact, gilt on spine still clear. Pages are soiled, but the binding is sound. A true relic from our Nation during its darkest times preceding the Civil War...one can only imagine what the family was doing during these times when this Bible was probably a very active player in their religious lives! Measures 7" x 5" x 2".
