Very special HOLY BIBLE printed and published by Collins' Clear-Type Press in Glasgow in the year 1943. Issued By the Authority of His Majesty King George VI ("The King's Speech King"), 50,000 Bibles were printed by "said" publisher. Included in the Bible are Major C.R. Conder's illustrated maps of Western Palestine. They were considered a great achievement of geographical discovery when printed in 1882. Title page statement: "The Holy Bible containing The Old and New Testaments Translated Out of the Original Tongues and With the Former Translations Diligently compared and Revised by His Majesty's Special Command. Appointed to be Read in Churches" The publication date of 1943 strikes me as interesting. Europe and Great Britain were embroiled in WWII. The London Blitzkreig was over and we were a year away from D-Day. It is amazing that such a large quantity of Bibles were printed in Glasgow, Great Britain (known as the UK after the war) during wartime. The Bible condition is in very good. It contains 210 pages - both Old and New Testament. The pebbled textured leather soft cover has a few tiny marks on the front. Some scuffing of the leather on the spine top and bottom. The overlapping binding shows no tears along edges. Just a little rubbing along the bend in overlap. Inside there is no tearing on hinges. Very clean inside frontispiece, read more
