Honduras Black Opal Tumblestone - 'A' Grade - Extra Large Opal is a hydrated silicon dioxide material with a hardness of 5.5 . Opal is composed of sub-microscopic silica spheres that are bonded together with water and additional silica. In Roman history Opal was linked to good luck and hope. This amazing, large tumbled example of Opal is from Honduras, the Opal has formed in Balsalt and has lots of coloured flash. It measures approx. 5.7 cms x 3.8 cms x 1.8 cms and has green, red and blue flash within the Opal - hard to capture it all in the photograph - it is wonderful quality. Check out my other items !
