U.S. WW2 M1 helmet. The shell has swivel bails and the rim seam is to the front of the helmet. The shell is structurally very sound. Rim is tightly attached (stainless steel, so must have been produced in 1942-43 - see Mark Reynosa's book, "The U.S. M-1 Helmet: A History of the M1 Helmet in World War II."). Great paint & texture. Looks like most of the original cork texture is t The swivel bails are in fine shape and the OD chinstraps are in excellent, strong condition. Has the brass, flat buckle. Liner is a super example from the Hood Rubber Company, a subsidiary of the BF Goodrich Tire Company. Their production method used a low pressure system which resulted in a different internal appearance than the high pressure liners. The interior looks somewhat grainy and dirty compared to the smooth interior and sheen of the standard high pressure liner. Only 206,000 of these were made by Hood Rubber when production stopped in early 1944, making these the rarest of all helmet liners made in WWII. This is very good liner complete with strong HBT web suspension, liner chinstrap with brass buckle and sweatband. The A Frame washers are early war zinc plated steel. Inside t is a name written, the outside has some paint chips and scratches & pencil marks. The leather is in great condition with some light stains. The sweatband has a couple for rust stains the look like paperclips. Guaranteed original U.S. Army or U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) WWII issue, manufactured in 1942-43 Buyer pays actual shipping only.
