Called the Hano or Tewa clown by the Hopis, they provide amusement during ceremonies and are often drummers for other dances. They are considered to be the fathers of the kachinas.This is a unique and colorful Hopi Clown Kachina - it is 15" tall, on a 1" tall base - carved from 100% cottonwood - hand carved, hand painted and hand crafted with many great details - embellishments intact. An unusual and exceptional Hano Koshare Clown - Excellent condition. Circa 1988.This Clown Kachina is a work of art by the very well known carver Clarence Cleveland. Signed on the bottom.
