Hopi Famous Artist Lawrence Mahle Jr. is from First Mesa(old Hopi Village) Northeastern Arizona, this effigy represents the female in the Butterfly social dance. It is not the same as the Palhik Mana although its often incorrectly combined with the latter to produce the name Polik Mana. In appearance it is sufficiently like the Pahlik Mana to add to the confusion. However, the face of the Poli Man is not masked other than the bangs which cover the eyes. When the dance is given, the girls dancing are considered to appear as butterflies. This Butterfly Mana Kachina Sculpture is 8 in. x 1.5 in. wide, wing span 2.5 in. wide. I know Lawrence and all the Hopi Artists work, I collect from. Brand New Kachina, made from cottonwood root, retail price $ 200.00 !!!
