At Hopi ceremonial dances, this particular Kachina will expertly mimic the actions of any spectator or performer who catches the attention of his telescopic eyes. Finally he will become such a nuisance to the dancers that one of them will mimic setting their hair on fire, and the Mocking Kachina will follow suit, except that he actually will set his hair on fire, running frantically out of the dance plaza amidst the cheers of the audience.This great example was carved by PhilanderShelton, grandson of the legendary Henry Shelton.
