Presented today is this lovely Hopi Kachina doll, depicting Tawa the Sun Kachina, perhaps the most emblematic of all the Hopi Kachinas. Very rarely seen, he is actually the earthly, or Kachinic representation of Tawa the Sun God, and is not a representation of the actual Sun God (the Kachina religion is VERY complicated). This very nice example stands 10 inches tall and is in excellent condition. It is unfortunately unsigned, but when Earl Arthur, the highly respected carver, saw it in my collection, expressed the opinion that it was one of his, carved when he was a teenager. This fits the provenience, as the lady i acquired it from said her mother had purchased it in the 1980's (the original pricetag of $240 is still intact on the base). If Earl believes it to be one of his, then that speaks volumes for the quality of this piece. A Tawa carved correctly is one of the most beautiful of the Kachina dolls, and this one would grace any Kachina doll collection. i guarantee it's authenticity, and as you all know, if the buyer is unsatisfied for ANY reason, i will immediately return the full purchase price, shipping included. So have fun bidding on this splendid Tawa, and Good Luck to all! Best Regards, Rich
