Hornby O Gauge ST Transformer This special transformer called the ST (Security Total) was made in France and is designed for controlling the speed and direction of remote reverse locos of any make including JEP. It can also be used for the continous speed control of manual reverse trains but it does not reverse them It is important to note that remote reverse trains - I usually have them in my shop - must never be run using ordinary AC output transformers. This will demagnetise the motor and it will need repair - only use a ST or similar transformer with DC output The input to the transformer is 220v AC. It can also use 110v input by adjusting the fuse holder (photo 6). The main controlled output which is continously variable is 0 - 20V DC at 16 watts (photo 3). This is capable of running 2 locos because a single remote reverse loco uses 8 watts. The transformer also has a 2 x 20 volt auxiliary outputs at 24 watts for accessories (output C in photo 4) eg lights or remote controlled points or input into a speed regulator (output D in photo 4) to control another remote reverse train.
