HORVATH IMPRESSIONIST MID 20TH C OIL PAINTING LANDSCAPE VILLAGE W CHURCHES & TWIN STEEPLES NR For your consideration is this impressionistic painting of a European? Village nestled in the hills and mountains. The church spires look Italian or European to my eyes, but could be an artist’s interpretation of anywhere. I can find no signature on the front but there are pencil markings on the back of the stretcher that indicate the painting was done by an artist named HORVATH or HORWATH or HORVAT . The markings are difficult to see, but they might show up on the photos. I checked some of the internet sites, artnet, askart, etc. and found multiple artists with those spellings and am not able to identify which one might have done this particular work. Perhaps you will have better luck and will discover a treasure for your collection. The foreground is painted in heavy impasto strokes and might have been done with a palate knife. There is a small chip of paint missing above the bushes in the lower right corner, otherwise the condition looks to be very good and the colors should brighten with a light cleaning.
