This auction is for a rare and very hard to find replica of Don "The Snake" Prudhomme's Plymouth Barracuda Funny Car dragster from Hot Wheels Legends collection . In 1970, Tom McEwen came to Mattel to propose our sponsoring two identically equipped funny cars, which could run in highly publicized match-races. Two state-of- the-art, tire smokin', wheelie-poppin', nitro-guzzlin', super-charged funny cars, driven by two of drag racing's biggest superstars - Tom MCewen and the legendary Don "the Snake" Prudhomme. However, McEwen needed a nickname or "handle" that could equal or eclipse his rival - something that could defeat a Snake. Thus, the Mongoose was born.... and what began as a Hot Wheels promotional event became a drag racing legend. Don Prudhomme has won 49 National Hot Rod Association Championships and that has made "The Snake" the winningest drag racer in history. He is the first-time Winston Series Champion, the first funny car driver to run the quarter mile in under 5.20 seconds and the first to break 250 mph. Ever coiled and ready to strike, "The Snake" went on to win major championships in four different decades and brought international prominence to himself and his sport.
