is a 1929 Extremely Rare ornate medium sized bottom marked (what I believe is an) Oyster Cracker or some type of Condiment Stand for the Hotel New Yorker. I also believe this was from the original order of silver plate for the hotel since the hotel was opened in 1930. This is the first server I've ever seen like this one. Alone, Oyster Servers are very rare and seldom offered, but again, I've never seen one like this. Of a historical note, the Hotel New Yorker was an impressive 43 storied Art-Deco sky scraper built in 1930 and located at 34th. Street at 8th Avenue in downtown New York City. The hotel also had a direct Tunnel connection to Pennsylvania Station that was operated by the Pennsylvania Railroad. The hotel was advertised as being one of the largest and tallest hotel's in New York and had 2500 rooms, 10 dining rooms / restaurants, and had the nation's largest private power plant. The hotel played host to many famous people over the years. Even Joe DiMaggio (the famous New York Yankee baseball player) lived in the hotel when in New York, along with famous band leader Benny Goodman performing at the hotel on many occasions. However by 1972, the hotel had fallen onto hard times and it closed its doors. By 1994, the hotel reopened and is now today of the Ramada Hotel Corporation.
