This is a hard to find scarce service plate made for the Hotel Orgeon in Portland, Oregon by Scammell China and is circa early 1920s. It is 11" in diameter. It has no chips, cracks or utensil wear. T is a tiny scuff to the gold band on the rim at 9 o'clock next to an even smaller scuff. T are a few tiny pinpoint underglaze specks and t T are a few light stacking sratches, and t round flattend imperfections in the glaze, one that is slightly discolored. I mention all this for complete accuracy as this is a very nice old plate that makes a stunning display to a short lived long gone hotel. Below is a descripton of the decoration found on the plate and a short history of the hotel. White body; the center well is a dining colonial couple; the rim treatment 4 coach and fours placed around 3 Portland monuments and at the bottom the name Hotel Oregon. The first monument is the War Memorial in downtown Portland. The second is a bronze statue in Washington Park called "Coming of White Man", two Native Americans, one depicting Chief Multnomah facing east along the Oregon Trail. The third is a bronze statue also in Washington Park of Sacajawea holding her son Jean-Baptiste, the famed Shoshone native American woman who guided the Lewis and Clark Expedition through the mountains.
