This Howard Pierce Red Arcature Vase with a white bisque fish and sea scape scene comes from a significant Howard Pierce collection that has been cabinet kept for many years. This large, beautiful scallop design vase exhibits Howard Pierce's incredible talent of creating a natural ocean setting in his ceramic art. The white bisque fish and ocean scene, combined with the red scallop design is a true piece of art. Red is a rare glaze for Howard Pierce . The vase was produced in the 1950's and has a mid-century modern, art deco feel to it. Howard Pierce was a highly talented artist and a one-man studio potter who started his work in the 1940's and continued up until his death in 1994. He is recognized as one of the greats having worked with William Manker, and his work strongly influenced California Pottery. His work has always been highly collected and has become more so over the last few years, particularly as pottery experts and collectors discover the depth and quality of his talent, work, and contributions to the arts. The vase is a beautiful piece of art in and of itself, and could be presented as such in any setting. It is a large piece that is heavy and measures 8" high x 6" wide. It is inscribed Howard Pierce. T are no chips, cracks, or damage. I do hear a small remnant in the vase from when it might have been used as a vase, which doesn't seem to want to come out. T is little to no wear from its use as a vase. I mention this purely for complete accuracy and does not in any way detract from the beauty of this piece of art. A fine addition to any studio pottery, mid-century modern, Eames era, or California Pottery collection. Offered at a reasonable reserve for the collector.
