This Howard Pierce Pair of Elephants (mom and baby) comes from a significant Howard Pierce collection that has been cabinet kept for many years. These pieces exhibit Howard Pierce's incredible artistic talent and ability to capture the essence of his subjects through ceramic art. The Mom & Baby Elephants are so cute and adorable together, and they are rarely offered as a pair. They are in a wonderful true to nature grey glaze, with beautiful glaze accents and hues of grey. Howard Pierce was a highly talented artist and a one-man studio potter who started his work in the 1940's and continued up until his death in 1994. He is recognized as one of the greats having worked with William Manker, and his work strongly influenced California Pottery. His work has always been highly collected and has become more so over the last few years, particularly as pottery experts and collectors discover the depth and quality of his talent, work, and contributions to the arts. The Mom Elephant is 6-1/2" high, and the Baby is 4-1/2" high. They have a charming presence together, and they are marked Howard Pierce. T are no chips, cracks, or damage.
