About the artist: Howard Pierce started his ceramics business in 1945 when he established a one-kiln pottery in Claremont, CA. In 1968 he moved to Joshua Tree with his family and continued sculpting. He is well known for his bird & animal porcelain figurines, which are now sought by collectors. He re-constructed the "Myrtle The Turtle" sculpture that can be seen in the center of Joshua Tree on the highway. Howard Pierce retired in 1968, although he continued to make ceramics & sculptures until his death in 1994.
