The Early's Witney Blanket's date back as far as 1669. Early's produced mainly point blankets. These points indicated the size and weight of the blanket and tfore what it was worth. The fewer points the lighter and smaller the blanket. During the pioneering days of the New World and the fur trade, fur trappers and merchants would trade Witney point blankets with North American Indians for beaver and other animal pelts at trading posts. For example, a blanket of four points would of been worth four beaver pelts. The American Indians prized these blankets for their durability, warmth and bright colours and wore them as garments by making armholes in the lengths of the blanket material. The Hudson Bay Trading Company was the main supplier of Witney Point Blankets for the North American trade and ordered supplies directly from the Witney manufacturers.
