This is a special original rendition large border mirror with a musical theme entitled "Autumn Leaves'" by renowned marquetry artist Jeffrey Alan Nelson with a beveled glass mirror. He works out of his Hudson River Inlay studio located in New York. You may have seen him and his work at a craft show. The art of marquetry is the process of inlaying different types of wood and shell to create the image of the object. No two pieces are ever the same, due to the nature of the wood; its varying grain and hue. The dragonfly has some highly noticeable mother of pearl and abalone shell. There is also birdseye maple, chrysocolla (stone composite), rosewood and another 11 other different types of wood were used to make the rest of the mosaic like inlay. The woods were cut individually into over a hundred pieces, glued down, and sanded and sealed. The frame size is 32" x 40.5", glass size 20-1/2"x28-1/2", and the weight is approximately 25 lbs. It comes with a listing of which woods have been used and the corresponding location in the picture. Incredible detail: even the dragonfly head and butterfly parts are inlaid. There is no painting.
