Hudson River Navigation Co. (Night Line)
Hudson River Navigation Co. (Night Line) (1902-1939), New York
One of a number of steamboat lines running up and down the Hudson River between New York and the Albany area. Formed by merger of two earlier lines, the People's Line and the Citizens Line, in 1902. The term "Night Line" referred to the time of departures upstream--t was also a Day Line and an Evening Line. The flag was white with blue stripes at the top and bottom and an elaborate monogram of the company's initials on the center in red.

From my personal collection is this great ship's ironstone chamber pot with flow blue design of a chain with nautical flag from the Hudson River Navigation Co. Night Line. The overlapping letters on the flag appear to be HRN Co ., made by "John Maddock & Sons, Ltd., Royal Vitreous, England," for "Kniffin & Demarest Co., New York." Measures 5 1/4" high, 8 1/2" diameter with decorative handle and weighs a hefty 5 lbs. This early ironstone chamber pot is in remarkable condition, no chips, cracks, repairs or crazing!! Just a few tiny manufacturer's flaws to be expected in pieces this early piece of Albany/New York City NY memorbilia. Selling this great unique and rare steamboat chamber pot for a low opening bid with no reserve! This weighs a hefty 5 lbs. unpacked, shipping is actual cost to your zip code plus $2 handling fee to cover packing materials for safe travel. Good luck! Crisse FEEDBACK! In 1909, the Hudson Navigation Company built and added a new boat for the Albany Night Line to replace Adirondack, previously called the Princeton , but launched as the Berkshire. The hull was built by the New York Shipbuilding Company, Camden, N. J., and John Englis & Son built the deck houses and the Fletchers built the engine, having cylinder 85 inches diameter by 12 feet stroke. Berkshire registered 4,500 tons, 440 feet length, 50.6 feet beam, 88 feet over guards and 14.6 feet depth of hold. From this information I found online, this chamber pot may have traveled on the Berkshire . I'll BE AWAY FOR THE HOLIDAY! I'll be away for the 4th of July holiday and won't return until late Sunday night, so not to worry if the winner doesn't hear back from me immediately since the auction will end while I'm gone.
