Beautiful, like new condition, rare "unseparated pair" Multistripe 4-point blanket, 72" wide by 183" long (two blankets in one!). Weight is approximately 10 pounds. Labels are intact, 3 1/8" square, "stacked" style indicating mid-1930's (as verified by the Canadian expert, Harold Tichenor, "A Collectors Guide to Point Blankets", also see his website ).

This rare blanket is about 75 years old and in excellent condition; thus would be a smart investment for a knowledgeable collector. Until the mid 1900's, HB blankets were delivered as pairs to the distributing stores where they would be cut and separated when sold. As such, most blankets would have been separated at that time and there may not be many unseparated pairs remaining.

Hudson's Bay wool blankets were manufactured in England for the Hudson's Bay Company and are known for their luxurious warmth and longevity - many have become family heirlooms. This heavy, warm blanket has a wonderfully soft, full nap (see pics) which you would expect in a new item. Although difficult to inspect due to its size, we have found only a few pencil eraser-sized grey spots which might have occurred during the manufacturing process (one spot is shown just below the lower label). There has been some minor moth activity in one area, hardly evident, including a couple of tiny holes where the critters took a little bite (see pics).

Added Note: some dark, shaded areas in a couple of the pictures are a result of the camera flash.

There is a misconception that the points on these blankets relate to the number of beaver pelts for exchange with trappers, which is not true. The points actually indicate the size of the blanket, a 4-point being a double. At times during the fur trade era, the number and value of the trappers' pelts did equal the number of points on a blanket and a mutual trade was made on this basis.

Cost of shipping is the purchaser's responsibility. We will ship via USPS to the 48 contigious States only, or to Canada. Total package/box weight is about 14 pounds (per the post office). Shipping to the U.S. will be $23.00 "Regular" mail (or "Priority" at $44.00 can be arranged if requested).

Cost for Canadian destinations must be calculated after purchase, but were estimated by the U.S. Post Office office to be around $50-$60 U.S. per the weight and size of box (excluding any taxes or duties payable at the border).
