Description: Just in time for your holiday table, the cake stand offered in this auction is, simply put, a true show-stopper! Impressive not only because of its mere size but also as a result of its classic elegance, it will definitely make a long-lasting impression on your guests.Supported by a beautifully shaped, tiered pedestal base, the cake stand's tray has a slightly raised lip around its perimeter and measures 13 1/2" in diameter! It is 4 1/2" tall (to the tip of the lip) and marked on the underside of the base with an underglaze signature in black print. The stand was probably made in the 1890-1910 period by the famous for its majolica production Sarreguemines pottery. Condition: Condition on this piece is excellent. T are no chips, cracks, hairlines or stains and other discolorations. Its excellent potting and graciously fluid lines elevate it above your run-of-the-mill cake stands (if such a thing even exists!). The glaze is in very good shape as well, shiny and translucent, with slight overall crazing commensurate with age. I would like to mention the existence of a crazing line on the stand's tray, which is only superficial and does not go through. I believe that it is localized in the glaze and not a hairline. It is not readily noticeable and does not affect the way the stand displays nor does it compromise its integrity read more
