Real Alligator Snapping TurtleShell from a 70 Pound Turtle You are bidding on a REAL alligator snapping turtle ( Macroclemys temminckii) shell. The turtle this shell came from was harvested April 18, 1989 . It weighed 70lbs when caught. While this is a HUGE SHELL, alligator snapping turtles have been known to grow to be much larger than this. Straight-line Dimensions: 18.5" x 15" Note: This shell had previously had a small 1/4" hole in the center. It has been refinished and now appears just as it did when first harvested. The shell is coated in a thick clear varnish and does appear glossy as in the photos. Please see the attached photos. This photo is NOT of the turtle this shell came from. The photo was borrowed from another online site and is posted just to show what a large alligator snapping turtle looks like.
