**VERY RARE**HUGE **c1850 VICTORIAN 12K ROSE GOLD & GF LOCKET -2 1/8"55gms From my own private collection , I am so thrilled to offer this EXQUISITE and highly collectable HUGE Victorian 12k Gold & Rolled Gold locket...it has beautiful REPOUSSE carvings that border round GOLD centerpieces... and the front panles have fabulous guilloche carvings .. DONT MISS THIS ONE .. as it is an EXTREMELY RARE FIND ! The BEST Fob Locket i have ever had in my possession ..and it has a DAGUERREOTYPE of an enchanting Victorian Lady ! A THIS WEIGHS AN AMAZING 55 GRAMS AND IS OVER 2 INCHES NOT INCLUDING THE TOP ORNATE RING This is such a HUGE sized piece and i rarely come across these anymore that are this size and condition...and any dark shadows seen in the photos are simply reflection as this is just so shiny ! If you count the top ring its overall size is 2 5/8" .. just amazing !! HISTORY It is Circa 1850 by design and styling......but may be much earlier and may be Georgian..but this is of Museum quality This extremely beautiful lockets front is a beautiful antique gold color that soft buttery hue ...The repousse edges are an antique RICH gold color..a beautiful contrast that is subtle but elegant. I cant find a stamp but the outer surface tested positive for 12 karat gold.. and I was informed the front plaques are SOLID gold on the front and back as is the large suspended ring.. and the rest of the locket is rolled gold .. .. and the internal bezels are rolled gold which was quite common for these large lockets and pendants in this Era. But it has the appearance of solid gold.. and I would not be surprised if the whole exterior were all gold due to the weight and patina....This locket would have once been suspended from a bookchain, and in tomorrow i will be listing a 14k rolled gold bookchain that would marry with this perfectly ! The start price is not indicative of its value....lockets such as this one...of this rich gold hue , weight , size and lovely condition..obtain very high book prices on antique websites..in the mid to extremely high hundreds. DESCRIPTION & SIZING The locket opensboth sides to reveal the glass receptacles ready to store photos, it has both bezels and the original GLASS inserts are intact.. and it currently has a large DAGUERROTYPE of an austere Victorian Woman that is simply fascinating ! .. This has rested on my hallstand for some time as a display.. The patterning on the panels is guilloche , which is an engine turned design, and the sides are repousse scrolls and is so beautifully carved and so striking .. a HIGH VICTORIAN heirloom piece .. just amazing detail ! It is a hinged locket on both sides and they both close with a crisp snap.. It has a large ORNATE bale .. indicative of its quality.. and is ready to hang from your favourite chain. .. It weighs a WHOPPING 55 GRAMS and this further adds to its appeal .!! The locket is round in shape, and measures just over 2 5/8" including the ornate bale.. and is approx 2" in width and has a 3/8" INCH !! .. and is a very classy elegant piece. I was informed this is a DAGUERROTYPE as when the photo is viewed sideways it is a negative type image.. or mirror image.. These photos alone sell for HIGH BOOK PRICES.. so this LOCKET HAS IT ALL ! Please note that the pictures do not show the beautiful antique gold and it looks brassy and dull...it was so difficult to photograph as the photos are always taken outdoors to give a better indication of the item but it was so overcast .. ... Please take your time to view all the photos...as this is simply THE MOST beautiful locket...it is just so SHINY ! The only fault is on one guilloche panel t are a couple of tiny dimples... but it is consistent with age and only mentioned for accuracy and as at the back not visible when being worn... and one of the glass inserts is cracked but stable and not moving ... but apart from that in FABULOUS antique condition I will be watching this auction with interest as it is simply the BEST one I have had for many years in my collection Please note that...
