This one is such a beauty and so big!!!! It weighs over 9 pounds and measures 13 inches long by the same high! This is the BEST elephant statue or doorstop I have ever had and in the best condition with the best finish. It is made out of heavy hollow cast pot metal or spelter with a rich original bronze painted finish with deliberately applied touches of greening or verdigris to mimic the look of aged bronze and it does. This verdigris also serves to highlight the amazing detail of the ornate tasseled, fringed and embroidered indian blanket on it's back. To add to that, the paint on the elephant has touches of polychrome original paint. He has a dark golden eye, a red tipped trunk, and the most beautiful dark jade green, burgundy red and brilliant orange colors on his saddle blanket. This is an indian elephant, so popular in victorian times and up to about 1920, with the british occupation of India and the romanticization of rajahs and tiger hunts on elephant back. I dont' know who made this elephant but it is guaranteed old, genuine and original. I have never seen a better doorstop although these were also used as decorative statues in men's studies, gamerooms and libraries. No damage at all and the original ivory paint on the metal separately big tusks. This is a bull or male elephant, you can tell by those big tusks. And a beautifully done elephant, with it's ears flared out, big trunk up in the air and trumpeting, caught in mid stride. I have never seen a better or earlier bronze finished cast metal elephant doorstop.
