This HUGE DISSTON No. 12 RIP SAW is considered one of the highest quality saws Disston ever made – the No. 12saw with “EXTRA LONDON SPRING STEEL”. It is a spectacular large saw and would be an excellent user for the woodworker who enjoys using quality vintage tools. It was made during the height of Disston quality 1917-1927, as in 1927 Disston introduced the “D” designation for their saws and also most saws were smaller in width and called lightweight. This is the original No. 12 saw with the great form fitting handle and larger size blade. It is a 26” saw with 7 ½” width at the handle and 2-7/8” at the tip. A full width saw perfect for ripping thick boards. It is a clean blade with no rust or pitting though etch is no longer legible . I gently cleaned the blade with 600 grit sandpaper not removing the dark patina of the steel, and applied a coating of paste wax. The handle is stunning with apple wood that is dark from age. It is a large handle yet very comfortable and easy to get both hands into the sawing action. The handle has long flowing horns that wrap around your hand and deep crisp vine carvings. The medallion and screws have a beaut iful glow . Once sharpened and tun ed, this saw will b e ready for use. I 'm no expert on saws , but know a g reat antique when I see one. I have a gentleman I work closely with very knowledg read more
