¡ Es fabuloso! … Dating to the 1930’s or ’40s, this impressive silver bracelet is an extraordinary example of jewelry making from the nascent years of Mexico ’s silver renaissance. It is composed of five imposing, slightly convex, oblong panels interconnected by pin hinges. Each panel boasts as its centerpiece a pre-Columbian style facemask marvelously hand carved in chrysoprase—with each panel cut out so that the gemstone can be viewed on both front and back. The gem masks themselves display a striking translucence and are set within a framework comprised of hand-crimped, scalloped silver prongs. The piece de resistance, however, are the singular borders that adorn each chrysoprase stone—a series of three-dimensional, individually applied, silver peyote blossoms and beads that creates astonishing “garland” surrounds, accented with dewdrops. Demonstrating both breathtaking design and highly skilled, handwrought construction, this bracelet makes for show-stopping wearable art, as well as a rare and rarified collectible.
