A complex vision leaps out of the undergrowth. ~Diane Ackerman Growing up at the beach inspired a love for so many things that are recurring themes in my life...one of which is a soft spot for the things that evoke a warm memory of my grandparents home in Brielle New Jersey...ones that ignite fragrant memories of the certain smells of nana's house...her basic bars of lavender soap that permeated the upstairs hallway from her stash in the tin cabinet outside the bathroom...or the smell of pops drying figs from his fig tree in the back porch off the kitchen...or even the smell of the basement...all of these were comforting for me as a kid and continue to be a world I recreate constantly...whether it be staging my front porch with old wicker and shabby iron with my favorite pottery...or simply making sure I have plenty of lavender soap on hand :) These memories are all we have sometimes. ..and I will be darned if I don't visually chase a high on my fragrant memories of pop and nana's shabby beach bungalow.... Bargain Days....these prices won't last...so buy up what you can at Hipasbury! T oday Im going through bins from when I lived at the Jersey Shore where I grew up...believe me its nothing like portrayed on tv...the Jersey Shore to me was good people...honest..hard working...very beachy...surfer-ish...old fashioned in many ways that made growing up there a treasure....but we true Jersey Shore peeps knew who to fear and that was when the tourists invaded the shore from other states...namely New York...we knew to stay away from the likes of Snooky and her gang...and instead chose drinking fresh brewed summer tea from mason jars on our awning covered front porches...yes there is a divide...but as you see on the Jersey Shore show....its much too wild for those of us who grew up in the quiet beach communities that were my life...that had truly the best estate and garage sales anywhere I lived...this drapery panel came from the old Warren Hotel in Spring lake New Jersey....it was stored away in built in bench seating in the main dining room...the Warren was well known by old money who summered and met for porch cocktails nightly in the summer months...that was until they sold out to greedy developers looking to capitalize on the beachfront land that could yeild 10 brand new homes...so the Warren was sadly torn down...but not before I was able to scavenger hunt the entire hotel.... this huge lot of 1920's satin damask drapery panels has so many possibilities ... there are over 10 seperate pieces put together ... im not sure what these were used for originally .... but with so much fabric you could do so much ...
