This is an incredible lot of mostly 19th century and early 20th century beads, broken jewelry strands, some findings and 2 really old boxes that this jewelry was in. I believe the two boxes to be 19th century. They are both in disrepair but the one with the brass japanese geisha's can be cleaned up and is truly a special piece. Inside these boxes were all these wonderful broken strands of mostly glass beads. T are yellow/amber glass, blue glass, black glass, red glass, clear glass, pink glass and t are these really pretty handcarved bone or ivory beads. Most of the beads would make complete necklaces if re-strung and someone went to great care to see that these beads were saved maybe in the hopes of repairing them some day! The findings and jewelry is mostly broken but again some real treasures that can be used to make new jewelry. T are also beads made out of beans- they look like kidney beans (black) and some really small burnt umber beans - all of the beans have holes and were strung and worn as necklaces - some of the strands are still patially intact. T are czechoslovakian glass beads. These are very high quality glass beads and I believe many of them are from the 19th century and early 20th century because they came with a long silk trim/ fringe from the civil war era (the fringe came with a note that gives it provenance dating it to the mid 1800's). THE TRIM/FRINGE IS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS AUCTION BUT IS ONLY IN THE PICTURES FOR REFERENCE. The fringe and the beads all belonged to the same lady. Most of these could easily be re-strung into complete necklaces or can be used to create new necklaces. This is a perfect gift for the bead junky or vintage jewelry collector. A real treasure!
