What a great find and in a very large size to boot at just about 13 inches high. Good overshot wares are hard to find today and this example is definately a cut above. Attributed to the Boston & Sandwich Glass Co around 1880 or so and if you have any doubts about this fact you can refer to THE GLASS INDUSTRY IN SANDWICH by Ray Barlow & Joan Kaiser, item #4078. The example pictured stands 11 inches high, eclipsed by this one at 13 inches high. See my last picture. Check out the twisted rope handles, all one piece when hot, pulled around the neck and then twisted to form the main handle, then seperated and attached to the body and decorated with applied strawberry prunts. The gaffer that blew this piece definately was no novice. Condition is about proof, free of any chips, cracks or content stains. No HEAT CHECKS at the handle attachments which are really just cracks that some dealers try to pass off as correct. No BS , this jug is mint and is guaranteed an original and not some later reproduction. Good honest base wear as well as a polished pontil under the base. Tough piece to find, don't let this one get away. Yes, I have a modest reserve on this piece, and no, I do not accept Paypal, and the winning bidders payment is expected within 7 days of the auctions close. Please note that this is a big jug that weighs over 4 pounds all by itself. It's going to need a big box and significant packing. If you are outside of postal zone 4 from you'll need to consider Parcel Post to save on shipping $$$. We pack VERY well, but occasionally they lose one, so full insurance is required.
